Unlike any other vector application, coloring an image in Adobe Flash is simpler. If  you’ve learned our previous tutorial on how to trace an image using Adobe Flash, now it’s time for you to color the image. I will show you simple steps to transform your outlines into a cute and beautiful artwork. Enjoy!

  1. Open your previously traced image ( for further information on how to trace image with Adobe Flash, look at our previous tutorial : Tracing with Adobe Flash)

  2. To coloring the outline,we will use “line tool”. “double click” the line to change its color. If you want to use different color for the outline, make sure to use different color for the outline.
  3. It will be easier to give color to your image if the stage isn’t in white. Especially when you want to use white on your image. To change the stage’s color go to  properties panel, make sure your pointer isn’t selecting any object, then the option for stage color will appear. Choose gray as the color for your stage.
  4. Use paint bucket tool to give color to your image. “Click” the icon and pick the color you want
  5. “Click” paint bucket tool to areas you want to color, Repeat this step to another area with different color. Look at the picture below for details. This technique called “color blocking”
  6. If there’s a problem when you blocking the color, it might be because there’s a gap between your outlines. To solve this, “click” on icon gap size on tool panel and pick close small/medium/large gaps depend on how big the gap.
  7. To give shading and highlight, use line tool to shape the area and repeat the previous step using “paint bucket tool”. Look at pictures below for details

  1. After you finish give shading and highlights, don’t forget to delete all the guard lines or any unnecessary lines.
  2. After that, change the color of the outlines. Give final retouch at the upper lines of the eyes. Look at the result! Isn’t she beautiful? Now it’s your turn to make your image beautiful too. Enjoy! :D
